AWH Team - Colour Creations Week 1 - Balmy Blue

Our lovely Art With Heart Team member, Catherine Proctor, is once again hosting this popular weekly Colour Creations blog hop. Join us each week as we showcase, in alphabetical order, our beautiful Stampin' Up! colours. For Week 1, it's Balmy Blue from the Subtles Family collection.

I don't know if I'm just late to the party or if the Scrappy Strip Technique has been around for a while. Whichever way it is, this is my first try at this type of technique, and I really love the result I achieved with a little twist on the idea.

Instead of using Designer Series Paper for the strips, I decided to emboss some Balmy Blue cardstock using three different embossing folders. I used the Ornate Floral, the Subtle and the Lace 3D Embossing Folders. Then, each of the embossed pieces were randomly cut into angled strips and glued alternately onto a piece of silver foil sheet. The strips were longer at the top and bottom of the silver foil, but after glueing them in place with a narrow gap between each of them, I simply trimmed off the overhanging pieces. I then glued this piece to a larger panel of silver foil so that I had a border all around.

I punched two daisy's from the Medium Daisy Punch and using liquid glue I layered one on top of the other. By using the liquid glue, you have a few seconds to adjust and line up the top petals in between the petals on the bottom daisy. I added some detail by scoring a line down the centre of each petal using a fine nib stylus before I glued them together. I think this adds some interest to the otherwise plain petals. The centre of the flower was created by using a stamen centre die from the Poppy Moments Dies. I cropped three of them in total and glued them together in the same way as the daisy. If you have the new 2020-2021 Annual Catalogue, turn to page 4 where you will find some great inspiration for layering the many different types of flowers. That's where I found mine. There is a wonderful selection of Stampin' Up! dies and punches to choose from to create perfect floral elements.

For the sentiment I chose the 'thank you' from the Free As A Bird stamp set. This set has a lovely font for the wording. I cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock to the size I wanted, stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy ink, then ran it through the Subtle embossing folder. I was going to flag the end initially but then I decided to create an angle to compliment the Balmy Blue strips, so I used an edge die from the Ornate Thanks Dies to crop the end instead. By doing that, it then complimented the outer edge of the Ornate Layers Dies framed panel that I ran through the Subtle embossing folder as well.
My little bit of extra bling is a basic rhinestone in the centre of the daisy and a single foil heart cropped with a die from the Stitched Be Mine Dies.

Here's the inside of the card.

I had some straight edge strips leftover and used them to decorate the bottom of the inside.

I really love this card and I have just the right recipient in mind. I hope she likes it as much as I do.
