Hello and welcome to the Colour Creations blog hop from the Art with Heart Team.
Our spotlight colour tonight is Mango Melody from the Bright's Collection of Stampin' Up! colours.
I love it when we get to showcase a member of the Bright's family of colours. The vibrancy of each solid colour is striking, but it's also nice to see the softer side. My card tonight has a mixture of both.
I have to say that I did struggle a bit with this colour for my card design though. I just couldn't get those creative juices flowing until quite late yesterday afternoon, and I didn't turn the light off in the craft room until 11pm last night - phew! But it was worth the time and I ended up with a card I'm really happy with.
I haven't played with the Art Gallery stamp set for a while so I dusted it off and got stamping. I often gravitate towards a large floral image when I'm having trouble coming up with ideas for design and short on time. They fill a large space with minimal effort and then you can play with different elements to highlight the focal image.
Full strength Mango Melody and Granny Apple Green make up the colours of the flower along with a gold leaf centre. I embossed the entire image with the Timeworn Type 3D embossing folder, and then highlighted areas with a Blending Brush using Mango Melody ink. Going over small sections with more ink so I got light and dark shading.
I also wanted to highlight little bits of the embossed background, so I added small amounts of tombow glue and used my finger to rub it lightly over the surface. It became 'tacky', which is perfect for adding gold leafing. To remove the excess leafing, I used a soft bristle brush. This helps it to adhere better and still retain the gorgeous gold sheen.
On the inside, I matted the writing panel to a piece of Basic White that got the "blending brush" treatment. Creating the light and dark areas again for added interest. The writing panel was embossed in the lower right corner with the Timeworn Type 3D EF to echo the front of the card. Leftover Mango Melody ink on the blending brush was brushed over the top to highlight the embossed texture, and I added more gold leafing too. I'm sure the recipient won't mind that the embossed image is actually upside down! It was the only way I could work out how to emboss this lower corner at the time.
The fussy cut sentiment is white embossed on black. The tone-on-tone stamped piece of card stock behind the sentiment really helps to make it pop even more. I randomly stamped the flower centre stamp over it and angle cut each end. For "bling", I've used a combination of rhinestones and sequins, the bows are the white organdy ribbon coloured with the Mango Melody dark Stampin' Blend, and gold twine.
That's where I'll leave you tonight, thanks for stopping by.

ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous car Caroline, not wonder you are so pleased with it. I think my favourite element is the surprise offset embossing on the inside of your card.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Caroline, I adore that soft hue around the flower, it is so beautiful. The Gilded Leafing is perfectly placed and nice and subtle. That Timeworn TIEF is really growing on me now, it adds amazing texture to your card.
ReplyDeleteSuperb Caroline. I'm loving the embossing with blending, the gold foil (so brave of you) and the beautiful flower.
ReplyDeleteOh Caroline, such a beautiful card. It certainly doesn’t communicate that you were struggling for inspiration. I love your use of mango melody both full on for the stamped flower and softly blended on the embossed background (I do love this embossing folder). Your touches of gold leaf are gorgeous and the card inner is beauuuutiful - you are right I’m sure the recipient won’t even realise that the EF was upside down - she will just admire it. Xxx
