AWH Team - May Creative Showcase - Sketch Challenge

Welcome to the Monthly Art With Heart Creative Showcase for May.
This month the team have amazing projects to share with you that have been inspired by the card sketch below.
The sketch was to be used as a starting point, and has been interpreted in many creative ways by the Art With Heart team.

Here is my interpretation.

I made a birthday card for my friend Sue. I wanted a white card with just a splash of red, as this is one of her favourite colours.  I'm not much of a banner fan really, so this was a good challenge for me.
I decided on two banners. The 1-1/2" wide banner was embossed with the Subtle 3D embossing folder and the narrower 1-1/4" one was embossed with the Ornate Floral 3D folder.  I used the Banner Triple punch to flag the bottom of each one and then I trimmed the sides with an edgelit die from the Stitched Be Mine die set.  For the circle element I wanted to echo the edge of the banners, so I cropped a Real Red scalloped circle from the Layering Circles dies, I ran this through the Subtle 3D embossing folder and added a stitched circle of Whisper White.

I wanted something small but pretty to fit in the space of the stitched circle and decided on the Varied Vases stamp set and coordinating punch.  The stamp set is retiring, but the Vases Builder punch will carry over into the new Annual Catalogue starting on June 3rd.  I stamped the small vase image in Versamark ink, added white embossing powder and heat set.  I stamped the tulips in Real Red for the tone on tone effect.  The stems are stamped in Mossy Meadow.

To achieve height without using dimensionals, I punched out three extra tulips and three more vases.  The tulips are all attached with glue dots but the vases were glued together with tombow glue.  I really like the dimension I get using this technique and you can see in the photo above how solid the vase looks and a layered look to the tulip petals.

I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink for the sentiment.  This is from the Varied Vases stamp set too.
I cropped this with a Stitched Rectangle die.  Three red rhinestones add a touch of sparkle.

For something different, and to add a bit of interest, I cut a piece of Real Red cardstock to 2-3/8" x 4-3/4" and glued this to the back of the Whisper White panel leaving about an 1/8" narrow border.

Inside the card I repeated the look, but placed it on the opposite side.

Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy the rest of the hop from the Art With Heart Team.

The next demonstrator to share her interpretation of the sketch is the lovely Rebecca Jacovou.

  7. A gorgeous card Caroline. The tone on tone effect is elegant, and the simplicity of red and white is lovely. The effect of using multiple cutouts to get dimension is great. The extra layer of red where a fine edging of the colour is seen is special. Love it. x
