AWH Team - Colour Creations Week 40 - Real Red

Hello and welcome everyone.

It's Week 40 of the Colour Creations Showcase from the Art With Heart team.
Our featured colour this week is Real Red from the Regals Collection of Stampin' Up! colours.

I've made two cards for this weeks showcase. Both cards are very different in their styles, as you'll see.

Here's card 1.

This card is for a friends birthday. She loves reds and greens, so I think this fits that brief quite nicely.
I decided to ink up the Forever & Always stamp set from the Mini Catalogue. I stamped the flowers onto Basic White card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and coloured with my light and dark Real Red Stampin' Blend markers.

I used the coordinating Always Dies to cut out the flowers and leaves, and I used black card stock and dies from the Magnolia Memory die set for the centres, finishing with a gilded gem. I followed the drawn lines on the flowers with the Wink of Stella brush pen, adding that little bit of sparkle.

I used a pre-cut card front from the Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Paper to sit behind the flowers. And behind that, I've used a piece of the sandstone brick pattern from the In Good Taste DSP pack. I added some detail to the laser-cut leaves by using the scoring stylus to draw centre vein lines.

Initially I stamped the sentiment from the Art Gallery stamp set in Memento Tuxedo black ink onto basic white card stock, but I thought it was too sharp in contrast to the heavy look of the card. So, I ended up stamping onto vellum with versamark and embossing with white emboss powder. I layered this over the original sentiment in black and it created this shadow type look that I actually quite like. What do you think?

Lastly, here's card 2.

A completely different look to the first card.
Lots of white, and I've gone back to using my absolute favourite die set from the Mini Catalogue, the Pierced Blooms Dies.

Behind the floral element I added a watercolour wash of Real Red ink and splatters of colour from the Real Red dark Stampin' Blend marker. The flower and leaves were mounted onto an embossed Stitched So Sweetly die-cut label, and behind that I attached a length of crinkle ribbon that I coloured with the Real Red Stampin' Blend marker.

Do you recognise the sentiment?
It's actually one from the Quite Curvy stamp set. And, yes it is a "curvy" shape normally, but I straightened it on my clear block H before stamping.

It's really easy to manipulate this photopolymer sentiment. Just use the lines on your grid paper as a guide to make sure it's straight. Easy Peasy!

I love the look of the white embossing on the Real Red stitched strip.
You'll find a list of all the products I've used on both my cards at the end of this blog post.

Well, that's it from me tonight everyone. Thanks for stopping by. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the team's Real Red projects.

Our lovely hostess Catherine, will have a list of tonight's participants over on her blog.

  1. Caroline you've shared such cool tricks on both your beautiful cards. Your happy accident with the sentiment on card one looks incredible and I love how you've straightened the sentiment for card two (I have to confess card two is my fave - so elegant!). Thank you for sharing your Real Red projects with us all tonight xx

  2. As soon as I saw your first card, I wondered how you created the sentiment ... thanks for explaining! It looks fabulous. Lots of lush detail on the card for your friend; I have no doubt it will be gleefully received. The second card is in your beautiful signature style, and put together flawlessly, as always. :)

  3. Caroline, that sentiment on your first card looks amazing...I kept thinking maybe it was photo-shopped or something but such a brilliant happy accident! And your second card is so so sweet, stunningly put together and the wash of red in the background gives it a nice touch too.

  5. Two beautiful cards Caroline. Such attention to detail on both cards. Your sentiment happy accident is amazing - I wonder if i can re-create it? So impressed with your detail of adding veins to the leaves of the laser-cut background. I've been falling in love with the Stitched Blooms dies too. You have incorporated them so well with the watercolour wash, coloured ribbon and the splatters. Also, love the way you straightened that lovely sentiment. xxx
